Session 1 (English)

Title and session description:

From silos to systems: Building active communities through physical literacy

Active Sudbury is nearing its 10-year milestone, marking not only a decade of impact but also a wealth of growth in understanding, knowledge, skills, and leadership in advancing physical literacy. This presentation highlights how a decade of collaboration, guided by Sport for Life’s Physical Literacy for Communities (PL4C), has advanced physical literacy as an upstream health promotion approach. By collaborating across the education, sport, recreation, and health sectors, Active Sudbury uses physical literacy as the gateway to be active for life. Through community engagement and cross-sector partnerships, the initiative fosters lifelong competence, confidence, and motivation to move. This model demonstrates how coordinated local action can drive systems change, reduce barriers, and support healthier, more active communities.
