Champions for Life - Empowering Children to Move Well!
The importance of the early years in terms of development and impact across the lifespan is well documented. There is also much literature recognizing fundamental movement skills (FMS) as being the basis for the successful acquisition of more complex movement patterns. There is agreement that FMS are essential to the development of physical literacy and that the early years serves as an important window for the development of these skills. This session will explore the kinds of movement and movement skills that should be practiced during the early years and, importantly, how these movement skills can be meaningfully explored at the individual and group level. Some barriers, possible solutions and resources for developing physical literacy foundations in the early years will also be presented.
