Allan Leannie
Ballroom Dance Instructor
Bio: When I retired, I knew I didn’t want to become a statistic by sitting in front of the TV and doing nothing. I started volunteering at a used bicycle shop, repairing bikes. Twenty-five years later, I’m still involved with the Recycle Cycle shop—and now I run it.
About 12 years ago, I met my wife, who is from China and passionate about cultural dance. Through her, I became involved with the Hamilton Multicultural Ballroom Dancing Group. Together, we not only enjoy dancing but also help newcomers learn, have fun, and meet new people. We often perform demonstrations, including at Chinese New Year celebrations at Mohawk College and cultural events at McMaster University.
I come from a show business family—my mother was a professional dancer, and my uncle was a stand-up comedian. Dancing has given me the same gift of joy and connection, bringing new friends from many cultures and greatly improving my physical fitness and mental well-being.
