From silos to collaboration: The PLAY in Peel Project
Over the last ten years, Canadian researchers have consistently found that a majority of our children are not getting sufficient physical activity; and about two-thirds lack a basic level of physical literacy – the fundamental movement skills, competence and confidence to allow them to engage in a variety of physical activities. At Play in Peel, we want to address this crisis of inactivity and skill deficiency by improving children’s physical literacy. Since 2020 our team has delivered training and support to educators in order to help them improve the physical literacy of students, while supporting ECEs, parents, recreation staff and community leaders with education and resources. This presentation will explore how Play in Peel has supported educators from Peel District School board and lessons learned over the project, with an emphasis on Inclusivity, Authentic Learning, and the impact of PLAYBuilder, Sport for Life’s activity library and lesson planning platform.
